Bachelet consolidates her lead

The interesting question about the presidential election, due in December, is whether Michelle Bachelet, of the ruling Concertación coalition, will win outright in the first round of voting. To do so she needs to win a 50%-plus share of the vote, which, to judge by the latest opinion polls, is certainly possible. If she is forced into a run-off against either of her two challengers, however, the election could become much more difficult to call.
